Here are the latest updates from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the eighth day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament

The eighth day of the monsoon session saw the suspension of the 20th Rajya Sabha MP after AAP’s Sanjay Singh was suspended for the rest of the session under Rule 256 for displaying placards in the Well of the House. Soon after, 20 suspended MPs began a 50-hour-long protest inside the Parliament complex near the Gandhi statue. The lower house passed the National Anti-Doping Bill which provides a statutory framework for the functioning of the National Anti-Doping Agency and the National Doping Testing Laboratory.

Today, the Lok Sabha will consider the Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2021 which has gone through several amendments in a select committee. Rajya Sabha has listed the Indian Antarctic Bill, 2022 for passage. The bill has already been passed by the lower house.

Rajya Sabha adjourned amid protests from both sides

Rajya Sabha has also been adjourned till 12.00 noon as the opposition continues its day long protest against price hike, GST and other issues.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman demanded an apology from Congress President Sonia Gandhi for her alleged remarks against President Draupadi Murmu by Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

She says Mr Chowdhury has used a “sexist insult” towards the president by calling him “president”, while it is “the common understanding that president is a gender agnostic term, which represents the leader of the nation”.

“I think this is not a slip of the tongue. This is a deliberate, sexist insult against a man who comes from a tribal background and is a self-made woman,” Mr Sitharaman alleged, adding that Ms Gandhi apologized to President Murmu and the nation.

Meanwhile, opposition MPs continued to raise slogans against suspension of fellow members, inflation and GST. Speaker of the house M. Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the house.

Rajya Sabha Chairman warns opposition MPs against recording the proceedings of the House

Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu warned the members against using their mobile phones to shoot the proceedings of the House and give videos to others. He says that action will be taken against those who are again carrying placards and shooting videos on their phones. Shri Naidu asked the staff of the House to note down the names of the MPs carrying placards.

Opposition MPs objected to Mr Naidu’s warning and started raising slogans against the suspension of their colleagues.

Lok Sabha proceedings resume, BJP opposes insult to President Draupadi Murmu

As the Lok Sabha began its ninth day of proceedings, Union Minister Smriti Irani slammed Leader of the Opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury for referring to President Draupadi Murmu as “the President”. Reminding that Ms Murmu is a ‘poor, tribal woman who has risen to the highest office’, Ms Irani demanded an apology from both Mr Chowdhury and Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi for the Congress MP’s remarks.

Rajya Sabha: The Indian Antarctic Bill, 2022 which provides for national measures to protect the Antarctic environment and dependent and associated ecosystems and to give effect to the Antarctic Treaty, Convention on the Protection of Antarctic Marine Living Resources and the Protocol on Environmental Protection. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh will take forward the Antarctic Treaty for consideration.

Over 1.30 lakh people died, 3.48 lakh injured in road accidents in 2020: Nitin Gadkari

A total of 3,48,279 people were injured in 3,66,138 road accidents across the country during the calendar year 2020, leading to 1,31,714 deaths, Parliament was informed on July 27.

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in a written reply to Rajya Sabha said that 4,51,361 people were injured in road accidents in India during 2019 while the total number of accidents stood at 4,49,002.

According to the minister, the road ministry has prepared a multi-pronged strategy to address the issue of road safety based on education, engineering (both road and vehicle), enforcement and emergency care.

Rajya Sabha may take price hike next week

Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy on Wednesday asked the Center to review the new armed forces recruitment scheme, Agneepath, stating what will happen to the youth of his career after the end of his four-year term in the armed forces. are in the dark. “Soldiers will be recruited only for four years under the Agneepath scheme with no retirement benefits like pension. Opposition demands suspension of four Congress members in Lok Sabha

In a show of solidarity with the four suspended Congress members, on 27 July, opposition members in the Lok Sabha demanded revocation of their suspension, but the government insisted that it would request Speaker Om Birla to withdraw only if he received this assurance.
