Judicial ‘inaction’ favors those in power: Tharoor

High pendency of cases, large number of vacancies and collegium system of appointment were among the major issues raised by Lok Sabha members on Tuesday, while debating a bill to increase pension to judges of the Supreme Court and High Court. Will get a certain age.

Initiating the debate on the High Court and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Amendment Bill, 2021, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor made some important remarks about the “judiciary failing to stem the tide of majoritarianism”.

Naga body hurt by Shah’s statement in Parliament

The Konyak Union, the apex body of the prominent Konyak tribe in Nagaland’s Mon district, has said that Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in Parliament on the December 4 killings was “misleading, indigestible and false”.

In a statement issued late Tuesday, the union said Mr Shah’s remarks in Parliament on 6 December were “from a purely Indian military point of view”. The statement has hurt and hurt the Sangh and its leading organisations.

Day 7 Recap

The Rajya Sabha witnessed its first adjournment within barely 5 minutes on the seventh day of the winter session. After repeated pauses, the Upper House was adjourned at around 3.15 pm as opposition members continued to protest demanding revocation of the suspension of 12 MPs.

In the lower house, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi demanded the central government to provide compensation and jobs to the kin of farmers killed during the year-long agitation against three agricultural laws on the borders of the national capital.

A senior leader of Telangana Rashtra Samithi K. Keshav Rao said TRS MPs will boycott the entire winter session of Parliament as they have received contradictory and ambiguous reply from the government on paddy procurement policy.

The High Court and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Amendment Bill, 2021 was introduced in the lower house by the Minister of Law and Justice, Kiren Rijiju.
