Passenger carrying 50 lakh foreign currency hidden in clothes, caught by CISF at Delhi airport

The passenger was handed over to the stranger officer.

CISF personnel recovered foreign currency worth around Rs 50 lakh by hiding clothes inside the bag of a passenger at Delhi’s IGI Airport. Staff at Terminal-3, IGI Terminal noticed a passenger moving suspiciously in the check-in area. This passenger was to travel from Delhi to Bangkok by Indigo Airlines flight number 6E-85 (STD 1035:00). But on suspicion of being there, he searched the luggage.

On checking his baggage through X-BIS machine, suspicious image of some foreign currency was noticed. Thereafter, the passenger was intercepted by the surveillance and intelligence personnel of CISF and brought to the Custom Office. On thorough checking of his bag in the presence of custom officials, 51,800 Euros and 5,000 US Dollars were found, which was worth around Rs 50 lakh.

This foreign money was hidden in the clothes inside the luggage. He was asked from where he brought such a huge amount. But the passenger could not produce valid documents to carry the foreign currency. The passenger along with around Rs 50 lakh worth Euro 51,800 and USD 5,000 was handed over to the Customs authorities for further action in the matter. The name of the traveller, from whom this foreign currency was recovered, is being told as Bhalerao Prashant Bhimrao.
