‘Pathan’ brings back houseful boards in Kashmir cinema halls

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Jan 29 (ANI): Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Pathan’ has turned out to be a success and boosted the business of cinema halls in Kashmir where movie halls were closed for three decades. The film has brought smiles on the faces of hall owners as the board of ‘Housefull’ is back in the valley.

Shah Rukh, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham starrer ‘Pathan’ registered a bumper opening with Rs 57 crore collection on the first day, quoted trade analyst Taran Adarsh. With each passing day, the film is setting a new record as audiences across the country are showering this spy-thriller with unconditional love.

One of India’s largest multiplex chains, Inox Leisure Limited shared a post on its Twitter handle on 26 January mentioning how the film has helped Kashmir earn money after a long break.

The post said, “Today, with #Pathan frenzy sweeping the country, we are grateful to King Khan for bringing back the treasured #HOUSEFULL signature in the Kashmir Valley after a long gap of 32 years! Thank you Shah Rukh Khan @iamsrk @thejohnabraham @ deepikapadukone @YRF @PathaanTheFilm #YRF50.”

In the last few days, two or three of his shows at INOX Shivpora in Kashmir have been houseful. A similar trend is found on Sunday (January 29) as one afternoon show is ‘almost full’ according to online ticket booking platform BookMyShow.

The people of Kashmir used to throng theaters and enjoy cinema like other parts of the country, before the 1989 insurgency in Kashmir forced cinema hall owners to down shutters.

Cinemas were banned by a militant group called ‘Allah Tigers’ and the youth of the state were deprived of their main dose of entertainment for nearly three decades due to political turmoil.

Thankfully, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the INOX franchise in Srinagar on September 20 last year and described it as a ‘historic’ day. There Aamir Khan starrer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ was screened as the first film and a group of young people attended the show.

Sinha had then said that there would be 100 seater cinema halls in all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir where the youth would be able to entertain themselves. (ANI)
