Patliputra University authorities sustain injuries after brawl with students over scrutiny of exam papers

A clash broke out between the officials of the examination department of Patliputra University and a group of students over alleged irregularities in the examination. The Deputy Controller of Examinations of the University, Dr. Hrishikesh Kumar, is reported to have suffered a head injury during the assault on Thursday, May 12 at around 7 pm. The students alleged that the officials were involved in extorting extortion from them on the pretext of giving marks in the examination. exams and they went to talk about the issue, Live Hindustan reported. The students claimed that instead of engaging in talks, the officers misbehaved and started fighting.

Local student leader Vikas Boxer, who was present at the time of the incident, said the students were ‘attacked’ at the behest of examination controller Mahesh Mandal, as a protest against their involvement in irregularities in the scrutiny of recent examination papers. He claimed that several students were also injured in the brawl that took place on Thursday evening and threatened to launch a protest if the authorities concerned did not take action.

While both the groups have refrained from registering an FIR regarding the incident, PPU Vice Chancellor Prof RK Singh has assured action against those involved after a fair investigation.

However, PPU Proctor Manoj Kumar alleged that the incident took place when some students tried to forcefully try to increase their marks in the exam copies. Pro. Kumar said that no one from outside is allowed to enter the examination department but a group of 10-12 students entered the office and started misbehaving. When the officials refused to bow to their demand for raising the marks, the students started misbehaving and attacked the officials.

He said that the meeting time for the university is fixed and when the students came, the officials were busy with the examination process. Pro. Kumar said that there were very few officials in the office after 7 pm, so the students had come with the intention of influencing the marking process.
