Teenager Paul Vanner on Friday became the youngest Bayern Munich player to make a Bundesliga debut for the Covid-hit league leaders, aged 16 years, 15 days, in a game with Borussia Moenchengladbach. After nine members of the Bayern squad were sidelined by the virus, Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann named both Wanner and Arijon Ibrahimovic, who has turned 16 from the Under-19 squad, on the first-team bench for the home game.

Wanner broke the previous club record of Jamal Musiyala, who also played on Friday and was 17 years, 115 days old when he made his Bundesliga debut for Munich in June 2020.

The Vanners missed the all-time German league record by just a fortnight.

Dortmund striker Yusuf Maukoko set a record when he made his debut in the German league in November 2020, just a day after his 16th birthday.
