I wanted to make a cake that has the flavor of Onam. The special cakes will be available till September 12 and are priced at ₹ 1,300 per kg.

Priya Venugopal is another home baker who has been making payasam cakes for over a year now. she uses pal pay As a filling for making her cakes. Surprised by the demand for the cake, Priya Payasam is also making jar cakes.
“During Onam, there are more orders as customers are always looking for something different. But even after Onam, I get requests for this cake for birthday celebrations of senior citizens, who cannot enjoy traditional cakes in the market. I have made many cakes for such birthday parties.” Priya’s cake costs ₹ 1,200 per kg.

Muffin House is another place for Payasam cake fans. This year, all the branches of the bakery-cum-eatery, including the one in Lulu Mall, have Payasam Cake in Uruli. “We have been doing this for three years. So we make semiya payasam and it is used as layering for three-layer cake. For Onam 2022, we are selling cakes in Uruli,” says Chef Sheriff A, Muffin House.
They sell around 500 to 600 cakes during Onam and it is available on all days except the day of Thiruvonam (September 8). It is ₹ 1,500 for one kilogram.
Cakes, cupcakes and cookies are also attracting the attention of people during the season of Payasam and Sadya. Square One Homemade Treats in Pattam, Thiruvananthapuram has come up with a range of cakes, cupcakes and cookies to celebrate Onam.
Floral carpets (pookalams) made during Onam with colorful icing and cookies with the same theme are hot-sellers.

“We started doing it in 2021 and it was a huge hit. The colorful butter icing on the rich butter cake complements the edible multicolored Pookalam with a lamp, while the cookies come with frostings that celebrate various Onam motifs such as Atham, Mahabali, country boats and flowers,” said store manager Georgina Shiju Tells.
