Petrol, diesel prices hiked by 80 paise

Petrol and diesel prices were hiked by 80 paise per liter on Wednesday, taking the total increase in rates over the past nine days to Rs 5.60 per litre. Petrol in Delhi will now cost Rs 101.01 per liter from Rs 100.21 earlier, while diesel rates have increased from Rs 91.47 per liter to Rs 92.27, according to a price notification from state fuel retailers.

Petrol in Mumbai will now be sold at Rs 115.88 per liter, while diesel will be sold at Rs 100.10 (after an increase of 84 paise and 85 paise, respectively).

Petrol in Chennai will now cost Rs 106.69 (increase by 75 paise), while diesel will cost Rs 96.76 (increase by 76 paise).

The price of petrol in Kolkata was increased by 84 paise and will now cost Rs 110.52 per liter, while the price of diesel was increased by 80 paise, after which it will now cost Rs 95.42 per litre.

Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state based on local taxation events.

This is the ninth increase in prices since the end of a four-and-a-half-month-long hiatus in the rate revision on March 22.

On the first four occasions, prices were increased by 80 paise per liter – the sharpest increase in a day since the daily price revision was introduced in June 2017.

The following days, the price of petrol increased by 50 paise and 30 paise per liter, while diesel increased by 55 paise and 35 paise per litre. On Tuesday, the price of petrol was increased by 80 paise per liter and diesel by 70 paise per liter.

Overall, there has been an increase of Rs 5.60 per liter in petrol and diesel rice.
