Petrol, diesel prices hit an all-time high today after fifth consecutive hike

Petrol and diesel prices rose for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday and touched record highs across the country. Petrol and diesel prices were again hiked by 35 paise per liter, according to a price notification by state-owned fuel retailers.

With a hike of 35 paise per litre, the price of petrol in Delhi touched an all-time high of Rs 109.34 per litre. Diesel price increased to Rs 98.07 per liter in the national capital.

Mumbai also registered an increase in fuel prices as compared to yesterday. The retail price of petrol in Mumbai today is Rs 115.51 per liter while the price of diesel is Rs 106.23 per litre.

For Kolkata, petrol costs Rs 109 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 101.19 per litre. The price of petrol and diesel in Chennai is Rs 106.04 and Rs 102.25 per liter respectively.

Petrol and diesel prices vary from state to state based on the incidence of Value Added Tax.

In the border district of Madhya Pradesh, the price of petrol crossed Rs 121 per liter, while that of diesel went up to Rs 110.29.

Meanwhile, the central government is in talks with many oil exporting countries on the issue of supply and demand of oil, but there is no possibility of immediate relief in prices.

Earlier, a source told ANI that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had recently raised concerns over the issue of prices, supply and demand for oils for major oil producing countries.

“With crude oil prices rising internationally, the petroleum ministry has called on the energy ministries of several countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Russia and others,” the source said.
