If crude oil prices remain at current levels for too long, the finance ministry sees crude oil growth of 8% in FY13. The Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, in its monthly report for March, said that the government is exploring all viable options, including import diversification, for procuring crude at affordable prices.

The ministry flagged the impact of higher crude oil prices on the economy.

“As the current level of international crude oil price remains desirable, India could come in the way of achieving a real economic growth rate north of 8 per cent in FY23, if it persists for a long period of time.” “The magnitude effect will depend on the persistence of higher prices.”
