Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a reduction in VAT on fuel by Rs 7 with immediate effect, after the Center reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, under pressure, the government cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by a record Rs 5 and Rs 10 per liter to help bring down rates from their all-time high.

The reduction in excise duty is effective from November 4 when the price of petrol will be reduced to Rs 105.04 from the current rate of Rs 110.04 per liter in Delhi. Diesel rate will be reduced from Rs 98.42 per liter to Rs 88.42.

In a statement, the Finance Ministry said, “The Government of India has taken an important decision to reduce the Central Excise Duty on Petrol and Diesel by Rs.5 and Rs.10 (ex-litre) respectively from tomorrow. Thus the prices of Petrol and Diesel. will decrease.” Statement.
