Petrol price in Mumbai today increased to Rs 108.67, an all-time high. Know fuel rates after the hike

Petrol-diesel prices witnessed another hike by state-owned fuel oil companies on Tuesday, October 5 after a day-long halt in all metro cities. Prices of both the major fuels hit new record highs across the country after rates for petrol and diesel were hiked by 25 paise and 30 paise per liter respectively.

According to a price notification by state-owned fuel retailers, petrol price in the national capital rose by 25 paise to its all-time high of Rs 102.64 per liter, while diesel prices also touched a record high of Rs 91.07. . per litre, after an increase of 30 paise.

After the latest revision, the price of petrol in Mumbai has gone up to Rs 108.67 per liter and diesel to Rs 98.80 per liter, which is the highest among metros.

At the same time, the amendment has now brought down the price of petrol in Kolkata to a level of Rs 103.36 per liter. While diesel is being sold at Rs 94.17 per litre.

After the latest price hike, petrol in Tamil Nadu capital Chennai was sold at Rs 100.23 per liter and diesel at Rs 95.59 per liter.

Tuesday’s price hike was the sixth revision in a span of a week, with fuel prices rising above Rs 100 in several cities across the country. Similarly, the ninth increase in prices in 11 days pushed diesel prices above Rs 100 in most cities.

State-run oil refiners Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum recommended daily price revision on September 24 after international oil prices touched a three-year high. Meanwhile, crude oil prices tumbled on Tuesday after the OPEC+ group decided to stick to an existing agreement for a gradual increase in oil production, Reuters reported.

After rising 2.5 percent on Monday, Brent crude was down 3 cents at $81.83 a barrel by 0054 GMT. While US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil fell 10 cents to $77.52 after gaining 2.3 per cent in the previous session.

In India, prices of both the major fuels are reviewed on a daily basis by state-run OMCs, taking into account crude oil prices and rupee-dollar exchange rates in international markets. Revised prices are applicable from 6 am every day. Also, petrol-diesel prices vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes.
