The BBMP has failed to fill the potholes despite the court giving time-limits repeatedly, with the high court saying it will no longer accept the BBMP’s excuse on the issue.

BENGALURU: The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday warned Brihat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials of contempt proceedings for non-compliance of court orders on filling potholes in the city.
Cout was hearing petitions against the civic agency for failing to eliminate the pits. It was observed that despite the onset of monsoon, BBMP has failed to fill the potholes and strict action is required against its officials.

The counsel for BBMP sought time till June 6 and submitted that there was a dispute regarding the cost of filling the potholes, which was being resolved and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was being consulted.
The court ordered affirmative action from the BBMP and adjourned the hearing till June 6. The petition dates back to 2015 and various civic agencies including BDA, BESCOM and BMRCL are also respondents.
During the hearing of the petition on Tuesday, counsel for one of the defendants, American Road Technology Solutions, submitted that BS Prahlad, Chief Engineer, BBMP, punched and assaulted the Managing Director of the company during a meeting.
The company told the court that the firm has given a complaint to the BBMP commissioner regarding the attack.
The court was also told that the bill for filling the pits has not been paid to the company so far. The court has asked the BBMP commissioner to file an action taken report against the chief engineer.
