PKL: Share in close match between U Mumba and UP Yoddha

U Mumba and UP Yoddha put up a hard-fought 28-28 match in a Pro Kabaddi League match here on Saturday with a stellar performance from their defenders.

Both sets of defenders, especially Yoddha’s Sumit (6 tackle points) made life difficult for the raider as big players Pardeep Narwal and Abhishek Singh failed to make an impact.

Mumbai had a one point lead in the last minute but a mistake by their captain Fazal Atrachali allowed Yoddha to tie the match.

In the headlines before the match were U Mumba captain Fazal Atrachali and his nemesis Narwal of Yoddha.

Mumbai’s left corner scored the most tackle points (15) against Pradeep Narwal, Vivo PKL’s all-time highest points scorer. But it was Mumbai’s right corner who got off to a great start in the defense to successfully tackle Pardeep Narwal in his first attempt.

In fact, Rinku picked up 4 tackle points in the defenders dominated first half. At the other end, Sumit outwitted all the Mumbai raiders looking for points in his left corner.

With Nitesh Kumar joining the act, it was as if the UP Yoddha duo had rediscovered the look that made them successful in Season 7. Abhishek had a poor first half and was often caught stationary on the left side of the warrior.

But whenever UP Yoddha smelled all out, U Mumba worked some magic to stay in the match.

Mohsen Maghsoudlu and Rinku made consistent Super tackles while V Ajith Kumar managed a Super Raid when the Mumbai team had just one on the mat.

A closely fought first half ended 16-13 in favor of U Mumba.

Rahul Sethpal’s super tackle delayed the final all out for Mumbai, but UP eventually leveled the score at 19-19 in the 6th minute of the half to give Sumit their High 5.

Looks like Sumit’s confidence worked its magic with his teammates as well as Surendra Gill on the 3-point super raid.

Interestingly, in the 10th minute, Pardeep Narwal was dismissed by Yoddha in place of Shrikant Jadhav.

Mumbai’s Ajith Kumar made sure UP didn’t run away from the match with clever raids. Fazal made a crucial tackle on Surendra Gill and Abhishek Singh picked up a touch-point with a minute to spare to give Mumbai the lead.

But Yoddha’s Ankit took advantage of Fazal’s mistake to level the score. The match ended with both sets of raiders playing safe and tied.
