Plessis, Kohli, Siraj take RCB to fifth spot in IPL after win against PBKS

Despite playing at home, Punjab Super Kings could not save themselves from defeat in TATA IPL 2023 as Royal Challengers Bangalore thrashed the hosts by 24 runs in Mohali on April 20.

Batting first, RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis gave the team a powerful start and a much-needed partnership. Both the openers crossed the 50-run mark as RCB scored 174 for 4 in 20 overs.

Virat scored 59 runs in 47 balls, while Plessis scored 89 runs in just 56 balls. Apart from these two batsmen, no one could cross the 10-run mark and the batting order collapsed.

Harpreet Brar took two wickets, Arshdeep Singh and Nathan Ellis took one wicket for Punjab Kings.

Chasing a target of 175 in 20 overs, PBKS’ opening batting line-up crumbled and could not do much. Although Prabhsimran Singh scored 46 runs in 30 balls, but the next batsmen went to the pavilion one after the other.

Jitesh Sharma (41) played some good short shots but was dismissed by Harshal Patel. Thereafter, the entire batting line-up collapsed and PBKS were all out for 150 runs in just 18.2 overs.

For RCB, Mohammed Siraj took 4 wickets, Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva took one wicket, while Wayne Parnell and Harshal Patel took one wicket each.

With this, RCB moved to 5th position in the IPL points table after winning 3 out of 6 matches played, while PBKS slipped to 7th position with the same figure. The difference in the game is due to the net run rate.
