PM Modi completed two decades as a public representative, showed the mirror to the Nehru-Gandhi family in Amethi

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Amethi on Thursday to campaign for the ongoing elections in Uttar Pradesh, he remembered the biggest achievement of his political career. He said that twenty years ago on February 24, he became an MLA for the first time. According to Modi, he had to enter the electoral fray unexpectedly for the first time and the way the people of Rajkot blessed him and gave him the opportunity to serve, it has continued ever since. Modi said he had never thought of doing electoral politics or getting involved in an election battle.

The first step Narendra Modi took that day turned into a two-decade-long journey. According to Modi, his journey as a public representative is indeed a journey to serve the people in the best possible way.

Modi had to contest a by-election from Rajkot-II assembly seat in February 2002. This happened because he had to fulfill the constitutional obligation of capturing an assembly seat within six months of becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001. He contested from Rajkot and won. ,

24 February 2002 was the day when the results of the bye-elections were declared. Modi defeated his Congress rival by a margin of 14,728 votes. The Rajkot-2 seat was vacated for Modi by BJP veteran Vajubhai Vala, who served as the finance minister of Gujarat for a long time and later became the governor of Karnataka.

The results of the UP assembly elections were also declared on the same day. No political party got a clear mandate and hence President’s rule was imposed in the state for a few weeks.

Modi contested his second election from Maninagar seat in Ahmedabad. Maninagar’s proximity to Gandhinagar was a major reason behind Modi’s decision to choose this seat so that he could easily reach out and serve the people. Later he contested and won the 2007 and 2012 assembly elections from the same seat with a huge margin.

In the 2002, 2007 and 2012 elections, Modi not only registered impressive victories for himself but also led his party to a bumper victory. This hat-trick of victory and his development work as Chief Minister in Gujarat set off the Modi wave across the country that he ascended to the Prime Minister’s chair in 2014. He again led his party to massive victories in the 2014 and 2019 general elections.

As the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Modi won elections in 2014 from both Vadodara and Varanasi by huge margins. But he decided to enter the Parliament as a representative of Varanasi instead of Vadodara. In the 2019 elections, he again contested from Varanasi and registered an impressive victory.

In his journey from CM to PM, Modi tried to develop his assembly and parliamentary constituencies as a public representative. This is the reason why Maninagar has grown and Varanasi has been seeing the same since 2014. Kashi Vishwanath Corridor is a topic of discussion all over the country, cleanliness drive has been carried out on roads and Ganga Ghats, while many big projects are being done. implemented. This ancient city of Baba Vishwanath is now shining with progress as Modi promised to develop it on par with Kyoto.

Modi regularly visits his constituencies. As a public representative visiting his constituencies in the office of Chief Minister or Prime Minister, it may be some kind of record, especially considering that he is not a native of these areas and has no permanent There is no residence. But Modi has always made time to meet the people of his area.

Referring to this unique record during his visit to Amethi, Modi somehow tried to show the real image of the Nehru-Gandhi family to the people there. Four members of the family have won the election from Amethi, but no development took place. That’s why the people of Amethi drove the family away, Modi said.

Sanjay Gandhi was the first person to win the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi in 1980. After his death in 1981, Rajiv Gandhi was elected four times in 1981, 1984, 1989 and 1991. After his assassination, Captain Satish Sharma had won by-elections—the 1991 election and the 1996 general election. Sanjay Singh registered BJP’s first victory here in 1998.

In 1999, Sonia Gandhi herself contested from here. After that Rahul Gandhi won three consecutive elections from Amethi in 2004, 2009 and 2014. Smriti Irani challenged Rahul Gandhi in 2014 and he defeated him in 2019.

There is a stark contrast between Modi’s efforts for development in his constituencies and the Nehru-Gandhi family’s neglect of the parliamentary seat. And this is the difference, when Modi was seen trying to highlight in front of the people of Amethi at a time when elections are being held in Uttar Pradesh, and the people are ready to give their verdict.
