PM Modi in US LIVE: This is PM Modi’s first state visit to the US.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on his first state visit to the US, gifted a handcrafted sandalwood box to US President Joe Biden, and a lab-grown 7.5 carat green diamond to First Lady Jill Biden. The sandalwood box contains a silver idol of Lord Ganesha and a diya (oil lamp).

PM Modi was greeted with a ceremonial welcome and guard of honour at the Andrews Air Base. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden welcomed PM Modi to a White House decorated with peacocks and lotus blooms today, hosting a vegetarian dinner.

Later in the day, he will hold a series of meetings with another group of industry leaders and CEOs. Among those PM Modi will meet are Micron’s CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, GE chief H Lawrence Culp Jr and chief of Applied Materials Gary Dickerson —  names that have raised speculation about big announcements on Thursday.

In the evening, he will address a joint-sitting of the US Congress. This will be his second address to a joint-sitting – a first for an Indian and a rare honour for world leaders.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on his first state visit to the US, gifted a handcrafted sandalwood box to President Joe Biden, and a green diamond to First Lady Jill Biden. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden are hosting a vegetarian dinner for PM Modi. PM Modi will be served a first course that includes a grilled corn kernel salad and tangy avocado sauce, the White House said. The main course will include portobello mushrooms and creamy saffron-infused risotto, with rose and cardamom-infused strawberry shortcake featured for dessert.

To maintain the momentum of growth, a “pipeline of talent” is needed for India and the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at an event here to highlight the two nations’ shared priorities around education and workforce.

He was participating in the ‘Skilling For Future Event’ organised by the National Science Foundation (NSF) on Wednesday and his visit to the organisation was hosted by First Lady Jill Biden.

The prime minister also highlighted the initiatives undertaken by India to promote education, research and entrepreneurship.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on his first state visit to the US, is set to attend a State Dinner hosted by the First Couple Bidens on Thursday.

US First Lady Jill Biden worked with guest chef Nina Curtis and other White House chefs to prepare the menu for the State Dinner, reported ANI.

The dishes were on display at White House for media preview.

The menu includes lemon-dill yogurt sauce, crisped millet cakes, summer squashes, marinated millet and grilled corn kernel salad, compressed watermelon, tangy avocado sauce, stuffed portobello mushrooms, creamy saffron-infused risotto, rose and cardamom-infused strawberry shortcake, the report said. Read here.

First Lady of the US Jill Biden worked with guest Chef Nina Curtis, White House Executive Chef Cris Comerford, and White House Executive Pastry Chef Susie Morrison to develop the menu for the State Dinner to be hosted for PM Modi. The dishes were displayed at a media preview at the White House. 

The menu for the State dinner will include Lemon-Dill Yogurt Sauce, Crisped Millet Cakes, Summer Squashes, Marinated Millet and Grilled Corn Kernel Salad, Compressed Watermelon, Tangy Avocado Sauce, Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms, Creamy Saffron-infused Risotto, Rose and Cardamom-infused Strawberry Shortcake.

“After dinner, we will have the opportunity to hear one of our nation’s incredible talents – Grammy award winner Joshua Bell. His performance will be followed by Penn Masala – a South Asian acapella group from the University of Pennsylvania who are bringing a little piece of my hometown to the White House along with songs inspired by the sounds of India..,” says First Lady of the US, Jill Biden as she gives details on the State dinner that will be hosted for PM Modi at the White House.

Actor Richard Gere on Wednesday heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, hailing his message of “universal brotherhood and sisterhood” while leading a special Yoga session at the UN headquarters in New York City.
