PM Modi meets US Congress delegation, has ‘clear’ discussion on common issues

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met a US Congressional delegation and held “frank” discussions on regional issues of mutual interest, including those related to South Asia and the Indo-Pacific region.

According to an official statement, “warm and frank discussions were held on regional issues of mutual interest, including those relating to South Asia and the Indo-Pacific region.”

The congressional delegation was led by Senator John Cornyn and included Senator Michael Crapo, Senator Thomas Tuberville, Senator Michael Lee, Congressman Tony Gonzales and Congressman John Kevin Elysee Sr.

Senator John Cornyn is the co-founder and co-chair of the Senate Caucus on India and Indian Americans.

“The Congress delegation took note of the efficient management of the COVID situation in India despite the challenges faced by the large and diverse population,” the government said in an official statement.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi said, people’s participation based on the country’s democratic ethos played an important role in managing the worst pandemic of the last one century.

Modi also appreciated the continued support and constructive role of the US Congress in deepening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, which is based on shared democratic values.

PM Modi and the visiting delegation noted the growing convergence of strategic interests between the two strategic partners and expressed their desire to further enhance cooperation aimed at promoting global peace and stability.

Modi also exchanged views on the possibilities of enhancing bilateral ties and strengthening cooperation on contemporary global issues such as terrorism, climate change and reliable supply chains for critical technologies.
