PM Modi reviews situation in Sudan, prioritizes safety of Indian nationals

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a high-level meeting via video-conference to discuss the situation in trouble-torn Sudan and the safety of over 3,000 Indian nationals in the African country. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Indian Ambassador to Sudan and several senior officials attended the briefing.

During the meeting, Modi took stock of recent developments in Sudan and received a first-hand report on the situation with a special focus on the security of Indians currently in the country. He expressed condolences for the Indian national killed by a stray bullet last week.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi directed officials to remain vigilant, closely monitor developments and continuously assess the security of Indian nationals in Sudan while providing all possible assistance.

Modi also directed for the development of contingency evacuation plans keeping in view the rapidly changing security scenario and the feasibility of various alternatives. He stressed the importance of maintaining close communication with neighboring countries and the large number of citizens in Sudan.
