PM Modi shares video of Kutch’s post-earthquake uplift

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared a video on the rise of Kutch, Gujarat after the earthquake, which has become a thriving hub of industries, agriculture, tourism etc.

PM Modi in his tweet said, “After the 2001 earthquake, some people had written off Kutch. He said that Kutch can never rise but these skeptics underestimated the spirit of Kutch. Shortly after In 2015, Kutch grew and became one of the fastest growing districts.”

The video shows people praising Narendra Modi’s work in rebuilding Kutch and giving hope to the people of Kutch during those gloomy days.

The 2001 Gujarat earthquake, also known as the Bhuj earthquake, occurred on 26 January, India’s 52nd Republic Day. The focal point was about 9 km south-southwest of the town of Chobari in Bhachau taluka of Kutch district of Gujarat, India.

Around 12,300 people lost their lives in the earthquake in Kutch district. Bhuj, which was located just 20 km from the center point, was devastated. There was also considerable damage in Bhachau and Anjar and several towns in the talukas of Anjar, Bhuj and Bhachau were straightened out. About one million structures were damaged or destroyed, including many memorial structures and tourist sites.

The earthquake nearly destroyed about 40% of the houses, eight schools, two clinics and 4 km of road in Bhuj. Ahmedabad, the commercial capital of Gujarat, was also hit by the deadly earthquake.

Four months after the natural disaster, the Gujarat government announced the Gujarat Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Policy.
