Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a meeting to review the Ukraine crisis amid New Delhi’s ongoing exercise to evacuate Indian nationals, mostly students, from the country facing Russian attack.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and another Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and senior officials attended the meeting.

India is evacuating its citizens from Ukraine’s western neighbors such as Romania, Hungary and Poland in a special operation called ‘Operation Ganga’, as Ukrainian airspace has been closed since February 24 due to Russian military strikes.

The government has sent four union ministers as ‘special envoys’ to Ukraine’s neighboring countries to coordinate the exercise.

Today is the ninth day of the Russian attack. India has contacted both Russia and Ukraine several times and has sought safe passage for its citizens to the western borders.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier dialed Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky to appeal to resolve their differences through dialogue and accord top priority to the safety and return of Indians living in Ukraine, who were under attack from Moscow. have arrived, which Putin wants to disengage.
