The survey also found that ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, whose 100th edition will be aired this Sunday, is the second most listened to on television channels after mobile phones, with radio listenership accounting for 17.6 per cent of the total listenership.
It found that more than 100 million people have listened to the program at least once, while about 410 million were occasional listeners.
“Of the total audience, 44.7 per cent listen to the program on television sets, while 37.6 per cent listen on mobile phones,” Dheeraj P Sharma, director, IIM-Rohtak, told reporters here on Monday.
Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi said that apart from 22 Indian languages ​​and 29 dialects, ‘Mann Ki Baat’ is also available in 11 foreign languages ​​such as French, Chinese, Indonesian, Tibetan, Burmese, Balochi, Arabic, Pashtu, Persian, Dari and Dari. is broadcast in Swahili.
Dwivedi said that the program is being broadcast by more than 500 centers of All India Radio.
The survey, conducted by students of IIM-Rohtak, reached out to 10,003 respondents across four regions – North, South, East and West – and across different age groups, most of whom were self-employed and in the informal sector. ,
The survey found that 18 per cent respondents preferred to listen to the program in English, four per cent in Urdu, and two per cent each in Dogri and Tamil.
Listeners of other languages ​​such as Mizo, Maithili, Assamese, Kashmiri, Telugu, Odia, Gujarati and Bengali accounted for nine per cent of the total audience, it found.
The survey found that 73 percent of respondents felt optimistic about the functioning of the government and the progress of the country, while 58 percent said their living conditions had improved. At least 59 percent reported increased trust in the government.
The general perception towards the government can be gauged from the fact that 63 per cent of the respondents said that their outlook towards the government has turned positive and 60 per cent have shown interest in working for nation building.
The survey found that the most popular topics on the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program were scientific achievements of India, stories of ordinary citizens, valor of the armed forces, issues related to youth, environment and natural resources.
