PM Narendra Modi greets people of Gujarat, Maharashtra on their foundation days

On this day in 1960, on the basis of language, the former state of Bombay was separated and two states were formed – Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Monday, congratulated the people of Maharashtra and Gujarat on the foundation day of both the states. In a tweet the PM said: “Happy Maharashtra Day. The state is blessed with a great culture and hardworking people who have enriched the national progress in various fields. I pray for the continued progress of Maharashtra in the years to come. He also tweeted in Marathi.

Greeting the people of Gujarat, the PM tweeted: “Greetings on Gujarat Foundation Day. Gujarat has left its mark due to its all-round progress as well as its unique culture. I pray that the state continues to scale new heights of development in the times to come. PM also congratulated in Gujarati

On this day in 1960, the erstwhile state of Bombay was bifurcated on linguistic grounds and two states were formed – Maharashtra and Gujarat.

The day is celebrated in both the states with many parades, events and celebrations in the two states. In Maharashtra, the main function is held at Shivaji Park in Dadar. And in Gujarat, the main event is held at the Sabarmati Falls. These events highlight the culture and traditions of both the states. This day is declared a public holiday in Maharashtra.
