Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh at around 1 pm today.

The first phase of the airport is being developed at a cost of over Rs 10,050 crore. The airport is spread over 1300 hectares of land, the completion of the first phase of the airport will have a capacity to serve about 12 million passengers in a year and the work on it is slated to be completed by 2024.

The Prime Minister had said on Twitter that the project would boost commerce, connectivity and tourism. “Tomorrow November 25 is a major day in infrastructure building of India and Uttar Pradesh. At 1 pm, the foundation stone for Noida International airport will be laid. The project will give a huge boost to commerce, connectivity and tourism,” the PM said on Wednesday. had tweeted.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Uttar Pradesh will become the only state in India to have five international airports. The development of the airport is in line with the vision of the Prime Minister towards promoting connectivity and creating a future ready aviation sector.

“The special focus of this grand vision has been the state of Uttar Pradesh which is witnessing the development of several new international airports including the recently inaugurated Kushinagar airport and the under-construction international airport at Ayodhya,” it said.

This airport will be the second international airport to be built in Delhi NCR. This will help decongest the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. According to the PMO, the airport is strategically located and will serve people from cities including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Agra, Faridabad and adjoining areas. The airport will be the logistics gateway of North India. Due to its scale and capacity, this airport will prove to be a game changer for Uttar Pradesh.

It will bring the potential of Uttar Pradesh to the world, and help put the state on the global logistics map. It further said that for the first time, an airport has been conceptualized in India with an integrated multi-modal cargo hub, with a focus on reducing the overall cost and time for logistics.

“The dedicated cargo terminal will have a capacity of 20 lakh metric tonnes, which will be increased to 80 lakh metric tonnes. Through facilitating seamless movement of industrial products, the airport will play a vital role in helping the sector attract huge investments, promote Enables rapid industrial development, and access to local products in national and international markets. This will bring new opportunities for many enterprises, and also create tremendous employment opportunities,” the statement added.

Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal said that the Noida International Airport will be implemented in four phases and the first phase is to be completed in 36 months. According to the Civil Aviation Secretary, this is a greenfield project which will be implemented in four phases.

Bansal said, “The first phase is expected to handle 12 million passengers per year and the final phase i.e. between 2040-50, the capacity of Jewar airport will be to handle 70 million passengers per year.”

He also informed that the Uttar Pradesh government is spending Rs 4,326 crore on land acquisition and rehabilitation and resettlement. Bansal said that the Prime Minister is personally monitoring the project. According to the PMO, the airport will develop a ground transportation center that will have a multimodal transit hub, housing metro and high-speed rail stations, taxi, bus services and private parking. This will enable seamless connectivity of the airport by road, rail and metro. Noida and Delhi will be connected to the airport through hassle free metro service.

All major nearby roads and highways like Yamuna Expressway, Western Peripheral Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and others will be connected to the airport. The airport will also be connected by the planned Delhi-Varanasi high-speed rail, making the journey between Delhi and the airport in just 21 minutes.

The airport will also have a state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair and Overhauling (MRO) service. The airport’s design focuses on low operating costs and seamless and fast transfer processes for passengers. The airport is introducing a swing aircraft stand concept, which provides flexibility for airlines to operate an aircraft for both domestic and international flights from a single contact stand, without having to re-position the aircraft.

This will ensure quick and efficient aircraft turnaround at the airport while ensuring a smooth and seamless passenger transfer process. This will be India’s first net-zero emission airport. It has earmarked dedicated land to be developed as a forest park using trees from the project site.

During the construction of the airport, NIA will protect all the native species and remain nature positive. It will be executed by international bidder Zurich Airport International AG as a concessionaire. The foundation stone for the first phase regarding land acquisition and rehabilitation of the affected families has been completed.
