PMC: PMC seeks clarification on creation of new wards. Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: The state government had issued a GO last year in which 100 wards were to be created in each city with a population of 15 to 18 lakhs for better infrastructure development. Prayagraj Municipal Corporation ,PMC) 20 more wards were to be added to the existing 80, taking this figure to 100.
However, now PMC officials have sought guidance from the state government to increase the number of additional wards from the proposed 20 to 30, which means the city may have 110 wards instead of the proposed 100 in the expanded area.
The PMC was of the view that considering the size of the population of the identified localities, at least 30 wards would need to be created on the basis of population density. This request is based on the fact that as per the instructions of the Government regarding the addition of 20 wards, the population of each ward was more than 22,000, while the population of the new wards was limited to 15,000, thus increasing the number of wards from the existing 80. 100 should ideally be 110.
“As per the instructions of the state government we had to increase the number of wards from the existing 80 to 100, but then when the density of population is taken into account, there is substantial disparity and for this we have sought guidance from the state. Let the government tell us how to proceed,” said chief engineer PMC, Satish Kumar,
Due to lack of norms related to the overall population of the particular ward, PMC officials were unable to send the blueprint to the government till May 15.
