The Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation has decided to hold another meeting with telephone and cable service providers after the companies failed to provide details of poles laid in the city. Mayor Arya Rajendran told the council meeting on Monday that the civic body would take steps to strictly enforce norms related to installation of poles if the service providers fail to comply.
Earlier during the discussion, Sasthamangalam Councilor S. Madhusudhanan Nair raised the issue of haphazard laying of cables by telephone and cable service providers and leaving open pits dug for the purpose, posing a threat to pedestrians and motorists Done. Left Democratic Front (LDF) councilor Palayam Rajan also supported his statements and said that the corporation should have a strict mechanism to monitor such actions.
Responding to the discussions, the mayor said the civic body had earlier held two meetings with stakeholders, asking each agency to submit the number of poles installed by them in the city as well as a map of the places where There are poles. have been laid. However, the companies have not yet provided these details. Another meeting will be called for this, after which the corporation will take steps to implement the rules.
He said the council’s control over pole erection permissions had been diluted after the central government directed all local body secretaries to grant permission within stipulated days of submission of application for installation of pole or tower by the service provider. Earlier the council used to scrutinize these applications. Now, the permission is granted through an online portal to the approved agencies.
The council also decided to invite applications for the placement cell of the corporation for twelve posts created on temporary basis for one year. The appointments will be made through the Employment Exchange. Vacancies are available for Civil Engineer, Architect, Urban Planner, Personal Management Specialist, Environmental Engineer, IT Specialist & Data Analyst, Documentation Specialist and other posts.
