The Kochi police on Thursday registered a case against Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president K Sudhakaran for his remarks that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is “running around like a dog”. The complaint was lodged by the CPM’s youth wing Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) under section 153 of IPC for abetting with intent to cause riot.
Sudhakaran’s remarks have sparked controversy as the Thrikkakara bypoll campaign is in full swing.
Sudhakaran had a comment on Pinarayi Vijayan from the local media here, “We should see the CM running around like this. For the by-election, he is roaming like a dog that has broken off its leash. Is there someone to control him?”
After this remark, Left Democratic Front convener EP Jayarajan said that even the common workers of the party do not use such words. Jayarajan said Sudhakaran’s statement was highly condemnable and action should be taken against him.
Sudhakaran later said that he did not call the chief minister a “dog”, but was referring to the colloquialism used in the Malabar region. “I meant about the yatra. If the CM felt that I had called him like this, I would take it back,” Sudhakaran said.
Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan, however, said the credit for using abusive language in Kerala politics goes to Chief Minister Vijayan. “They are trying to instigate and create new issues as they have failed in all other issues which we raised for the by-elections. K Sudhakaran had said that it is a matter of colloquialism and if the CM has been hurt by these words, he will take it back. CPM is trying to keep it alive by registering a case.
Satishan further said that the case registered against Sudhakaran will not survive even in the court’s verandah.
