HYDERABAD: Policemen and good people saved many lives in a fire that broke out at a hotel in Secunderabad on Monday night, in which eight people died.

Facing scorching heat and thick smoke, he managed to save four lives from the four-storey building.
He told PTI that he asked some people trapped at the spot to come to an adjoining building, which is attached to the unfortunate hotel.

He said the smoke was so thick that people were barely visible.
Some local residents of the hotel also covered their noses with blankets and pushed them into the rescue operation and helped the victims to get out safely.

He told media persons that they went inside the building and broke windows to facilitate air flow.
He also helped shift the victims to hospitals in ambulances.
The accident was that some people staying in the hotel got down from the windows with the help of pipes, while some were saved by the rescue workers.
An official release said that State Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali along with police officials visited the hotel.
The dead include three people from Delhi, two from Odisha, two from Chennai and one from Vijayawada.
Expressing grief over the incident, the Home Minister said that advanced medical facilities would be provided to the injured.
He said that an investigation into the accident has been initiated by the police and fire officials, adding that those responsible for it would be dealt with as per law, including violation of rules.
Eight people, including a woman staying at the hotel, were killed in a fire that broke out at an electric bike showroom in Secunderabad here.
Nine others were injured and were taken to different hospitals, police said. Most of the victims were suffocating. However, the police say that the exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem.
