Popular TV anchor and ‘hero’ of farmers: Meet ‘aam aadmi’ Isudan Gadhvi, meet Kejriwal’s Gujarat CM

Isudan Gadhvi is the common man’s face for the post of Gujarat chief minister, party chief Arvind Kejriwal announced on Friday. Confident of winning the Gujarat elections, the Delhi CM said that he is not announcing the Chief Minister of the state, but the next CM of the state.

Kejriwal said Gadhvi, 40, got 73 per cent votes in a poll conducted by the party. Gadhvi was pitted against state party unit chief Gopal Italia, who played a key role in the movement of the Patidar community.

He belongs to a farming family from Pipliya village in Dwarka district and belongs to the Other Backward Castes, who constitute 48 per cent of the state’s population.

Gadhvi has been one of the most popular TV journalists and anchors of Gujarat. His show ‘Mahamanthan’ on VTV News used to run till 8-9 pm, but on popular demand it was increased to 9.30 pm, with the same ratings.

“The show had millions of viewers. People gave a lot of love and when the show shifted out of the studio, hundreds of people would gather. The farmers, especially, saw a messiah in me,” says Gadhvi, who often describes himself as a ‘hero’ who promised hope and justice to the people. Apart from that one show, Gadhvi also did a weekly program on Sundays for ‘Preservation of Religious Culture’.

40-year-old Gadhvi belongs to an economically sound farming family from Pipliya village in Dwarka district and, as his surname indicates, he belongs to the Gadhvi caste, which is among the other backward castes of Gujarat. Incidentally, the OBC population in Gujarat is 48 per cent. Apart from Gadhvi’s own popularity and clean image, this is the factor that could tilt in his favour.

Gadvi Studied in Khambalia, Jamnagar and Ahmedabad. A commerce graduate, he did his post graduation in Journalism and Mass Communication from Gujarat Vidyapeeth in Ahmedabad in 2005. From a trainee journalist, he quickly became the editor of VTV News at the age of 32. As his shows focused on mangoes. He started getting a lot of requests to solve people’s problems, and these peaked during the Covid-19 years.

“Then I thought I couldn’t just speak and walk away, I had to do something else for people. I took care of my mother, who tested positive for COVID-19 and soon succumbed to COVID-19 herself. But still people kept messaging me, asking about my well being and help. When I joined again, I questioned the admission process in hospitals. It was the pain of people that I saw in hospitals, which was probably the turning point of my life,” he says.

Earlier, Kejriwal had urged people to contact the party through SMS, WhatsApp, voice mail and e-mails to give their views on who should be the CM candidate from the party in the state, which is currently Indian. It is governed by the Janata Party. BJP).

He had said that people can express their views till the evening of November 3 and based on their opinion, the name of the party’s chief minister’s post will be announced the next day.

Election The commission announced on Thursday that the Gujarat assembly elections will be held in two phases on December 1 and December 5. Counting of votes and declaration of results will take place on December 8.
