On the occasion of World Population Day, a debate has erupted over the statement of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the increasing population. Now on this the statement of BJP leader and former Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has come to the fore. Naqvi said that it is not proper to link population growth with religion. This is the problem of the whole country.

The minister tweeted and wrote, ‘Population explosion is not a problem of any religion, it is a problem of the country. It is not proper to link it with caste and any religion.”

Naqvi’s statement comes at a time when he recently resigned from the post of Union Minister. His Rajya Sabha term has ended. However, there is talk of him being the BJP candidate for the post of vice-president.

Earlier, Yogi Adityanath had expressed concern over the growing population of Uttar Pradesh in a program in Lucknow on the occasion of World Population Day.

He said that “the population control program should proceed successfully, but we also have to take care not to create a demographic imbalance.”

“It should not happen that the pace of population growth or percentage of some communities is high and we stabilize the population of ‘Mulnivasi’ (native residents) through awareness or enforcement,” the Chief Minister said.

The UP CM underlined that whenever we talk of population stabilization, we should keep in mind that the population control program should go ahead successfully but at the same time the situation of population imbalance should not be allowed to happen.
