The under-construction portico of St. Martha’s Hospital on Nripathunga Road in Bengaluru collapsed on May 31, 2022. Four people were trapped in the rubble, of whom two died.
The portico collapsed around 6.30 am.
Firefighters suspect that the portico may have collapsed because the structure did not have adequate support.
The patients were not affected as they were asked to avoid the spot due to construction work. The people who are stranded are workers, all of whom are from North Karnataka.
Work on the portico started about a month ago.
