Post-Election Violence in West Bengal | CBI detains six people in Howrah

The central agency has so far registered 34 FIRs and made three arrests in cases of post-poll violence – two in Nadia and one in North 24 Parganas.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday detained six persons for their alleged involvement in several criminal cases as part of its probe into the post-poll violence in West Bengal, agency sources said.

According to sources, a team of CBI officials visited Howrah district in the morning and detained all the six of them from Domjur area.

The central agency has so far registered 34 FIRs and made three arrests in cases of post-poll violence – two in Nadia and one in North 24 Parganas.

The Calcutta High Court had on August 19 ordered that the alleged rape and murder cases be probed by the CBI after the assembly elections, taking into account the NHRC report in the matter.

The West Bengal government has moved the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order directing a court-monitored CBI probe into the cases.
