The state BJP leadership has formed an inquiry committee in every district whose members will visit the areas to understand the ground situation and then submit the report to the state leadership.

Reports of violence in Tripura after the February 16 elections have left parties confused about the law and order situation in the state.

Sources told News18 that the state BJP leadership held several rounds of meetings to chalk out a strategy to check the violence. The party has constituted inquiry committees in every district whose members will visit the areas to understand the ground situation and then submit a report to the state leadership. The BJP has also instructed its workers not to be misled by the opposition.

Speaking to News18, Tripura BJP’s media in-charge Sunit Sarkar said, ‘At many places the Left and others are trying to instigate our workers by attacking them. We have told our party workers not to fall for any trap of the opposition. We have also formed a committee in every district.

Interestingly, it is the BJP that has been in the dock over the violence. The CPI(M) has alleged that a BJP ‘pradhan’ had lynched his party supporter in an incident. The accused was arrested and the CPI(M) blocked roads in Agartala after authorities refused to hand over the body of the deceased to the party.

In another incident, Krishna Kamal Das, a BJP ‘pradhan’ of Dwarkapur panchayat under Kalyanpur police station, and his family members allegedly killed a neighbor and CPI(M) supporter Dilip Shukla Das following a quarrel.

CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhary condemned reports of the opposition trying to incite violence. “What are they (BJP) saying? They are provoking people. They bombed the day before polling. However, people still got out and voted. Now, they have realized that they will not win.

Election results will come on March 2 and experts believe that the violence is a result of close fighting taking place in the state.
