MANGALURU: A 23-year-old man was killed by a group of unidentified assailants on Thursday evening outside a garment shop in Surathkal on the outskirts of the city.
The incident took place when Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai was visiting the house of BJP youth wing leader Praveen Nettar, who was murdered in Bellary.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Fazili, a resident of Mangalpete near Surathkal. He was seriously injured in the attack and died on the way to the hospital.
Mangaluru city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar told media persons that three to four miscreants had attacked the youth. A case has been registered at Surathkal police station.

The commissioner requested people not to spread rumours. “I visited the place where the incident took place and spoke to eyewitnesses. There is still no clarity about the motive behind the attack. We have imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 in Surathkal, Panambur, Mulki and Bajpe police station areas till 6 am on July 30. All liquor shops in these areas will remain closed on Friday. If necessary, prohibitory orders will be imposed in other places as well.
The commissioner said that 19 check posts have been set up in the limits of Mangaluru Commissionerate. Schools in four police stations have also been asked to remain closed.

The murder case has come to light after the murder of BJP youth wing leader Praveen Kumar Nettar in Bellare district on Tuesday night.
The gang that came after Fazil, who was talking to an acquaintance, accused him, chased him, brutally beat and cut him. Police sources said that the incident is being investigated.
