Pregnant woman kidnapped, gang-raped in front of family at train station

A pregnant woman with her husband and three children waiting to board a train overnight near the railway station in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district was abducted and allegedly gang-raped by three men. The husband of the badly beaten woman tried to raise an alarm and seek the help of Railway Police, but could not be found.

The woman is undergoing treatment at the hospital and the three accused, including a juvenile, have been arrested.

The incident happened on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday when the family was going from Guntur to Krishna district in search of work. The family is a resident of Prakasam district.

On Saturday night, the family of five was sleeping on the bench in the police station when all three woke them up. The husband was allegedly attacked by drunken men and when his wife intervened, they dragged him away from the station at Repalle, which is about 80 km from the state capital Amaravati.

The husband tried to take the help of Railway Police by running away but no officer was found at the station.

The woman was later found in the nearby bushes. He has been admitted to the hospital for medical examination and treatment.

The shocking incident comes at a time when the government is conducting fast track investigation, trial and conviction under the Disha scheme to ensure the safety of women in Andhra Pradesh.
