President appreciates achievements in overcoming COVID-19 crisis

New Delhi Describing India as one of the fastest growing economies in the world, President Draupadi Murmu said that while the pandemic has devastated lives and economies, the Indian economy remains strong and is growing.

Addressing the nation ahead of the 76th Independence Day, the President cited the Indian startup ecosystem and the growing number of unicorns in the country to highlight the country’s economic growth.

“The pandemic has also devastated lives and economies all over the world. When the world is grappling with the economic consequences of this catastrophe, India acted together and is now moving forward. India is one of the fastest growing major economies of the world.

He also said that the government and policy makers deserve credit for beating the global trend and helping the economy to thrive. Murmu further observed that during the last few years there has been unprecedented progress in the development of physical and digital infrastructure.

Through the Pradhan Mantri Gati-Shakti Yojana, all modes of connectivity based on water, land and air are being integrated to enable seamless transport across the country.

“For the vibrancy of the growth seen in our country, credit must also be given to the workers and farmers whose hard work has made this possible and the entrepreneurs who have created wealth. What is even more heartening is that development is becoming more inclusive and regional disparities are also narrowing.”

He said a series of economic reforms and policy initiatives are preparing the ground for long-term growth. He said that Digital India is forming the backbone of the knowledge economy and the objective of the National Education Policy is to prepare the future generation for the next phase of industrial revolution and at the same time connect it with the heritage of the country.

The President also said that along with economic reforms, innovative welfare initiatives like ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’, ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ and ‘Har Ghar Jal’ scheme are included.

Noting that welfare initiatives and schemes aim at providing basic amenities to all, especially the poor, he said: “The keyword for India today is compassion; for the downtrodden, for the needy and for the marginalised. For.”

Highlighting India’s contribution to democratic values, the President said that with the adoption of a universal adult franchise and allowing every adult citizen to participate in the collective nation-building process, India has shown the world “the true potential of democracy”. Helped to find.

“When India gained independence, there were many international leaders and experts who were skeptical about the success of the democratic form of government in India. They had their reasons to doubt. India, after so many years of exploitation at the hands of foreign rulers After that, was marked by poverty and illiteracy. But we Indians proved the skeptics wrong. Democracy not only took root in this soil but also prospered.”

He also urged every citizen to know about their fundamental duties and follow them in letter and spirit so that the nation reaches new heights.

President Murmu said gender inequalities are narrowing, and women are on the move, breaking many glass ceilings. “Their increasing participation in social and political processes will prove decisive. We have over 14 lakh elected women representatives in Panchayati Raj institutions at the grassroots level.”

He also highlighted India’s diversity in his speech and said: “Our country is full of diversity. But, at the same time, we all have something in common. It is a common thread that binds all of us together and inspires us to walk with the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.”

Stressing on the need to conserve water, soil and biodiversity, he said that India can lead the world in these aspects.
