President Draupadi Murmu reached Kolkata on a two-day Bengal tour

President Draupadi Murmu reached Kolkata on March 27 on a two-day visit to West Bengal.

Ms Murmu was received by Governor CV Anand Bose, and state ministers Firhad Hakim and Sujit Bose before being given a guard of honor at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport by defense forces.

Security was tightened in the city for Ms. Murmu’s first visit to the state after becoming the President.

She flew to the Royal Calcutta Turf Club ground in a helicopter before going to the Raj Bhavan by road from the airport.

Ms. Murmu was received at the RCTC by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

During the day, visitors to Netaji Bhavan, the residence of President Subhash Chandra Bose, in the southern part of the city are expected to pay homage to the freedom fighter.

Later, she will visit Rabindranath Tagore’s residence at Jorasanko Thakurbari in central Kolkata and pay homage to the poet.

The West Bengal government will felicitate Ms. Murmu at a function at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, where the governor and chief minister will be present.

The President is scheduled to attend a UCO Bank event on Tuesday to mark the completion of 80 years of the public sector bank after visiting Belur Math, the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.

Ms Murmu is also likely to visit Santiniketan in Birbhum district to attend the annual convocation ceremony of Central University Visva-Bharati.
