President Murmu attends 52nd convocation of PEC

New Delhi: President of India, Draupadi Murmu Attended the 52nd Convocation of the Centenary Year Celebrations of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in Chandigarh on Sunday.

Addressing the occasion, the President said that PEC has emerged as a leading institution for research and contributed to the global technological transformation. “It is a premier institute of the country as well as a harbinger of technical education in the region. The National Policy on Education – 2020 states that a good educational institution is one where every student is welcomed with a conducive environment, good infrastructure and appropriate resources.

He said the college has provided the nation with many stalwarts in the fields of technology, industry, civil service, education and research, including Satish Dhawan, former Chairman of ISRO and the father of experimental fluid dynamics research in India; Eminent educationist and Founder-Director of IIT, Delhi, RN Dogra; Satish Kumar, an expert in missile technology and strategic systems.

Kalpana Chawla was an alumnus of PEC’s Department of Aeronautical Engineering, becoming the first woman astronaut of Indian origin. He created an inspiring history of self-sacrifice for science. The Kalpana Chawla Peeth of Geospatial Technology is established at PEC,” the President said.

Addressing the graduating students, he said that they are entering a world of unlimited opportunities and possibilities. “Never forget your duties towards the motherland. You are the builder of tomorrow’s India. It is hoped that you will use the knowledge acquired in this prestigious institution in the service of humanity. Keep the message of Mahatma Gandhi’Sarvodaya‘ In your personal preferences.”

The President also inaugurated the newly constructed building of UT Chandigarh Secretariat ahead of the convocation.
