President Murmu calls upon people to live in harmony with nature

President Draupadi Murmu on Saturday called upon students to adopt a lifestyle that is nature-friendly and help the world meet the challenges of global warming as well as climate change.

Addressing the 12th Convocation of Maharaja Shri Ram Chandra Bhanja Dev Vishwavidyalaya at Baripada, Ms. Murmu lauded the university for establishing a ‘sacred grove’ in its campus to preserve the tribal cultural tradition. Sacred groves are symbols of community effort to protect natural resources.

It is believed that trees, plants, mountains and rivers all have life. Advising people to live in harmony with nature, he said that not only humans but all living beings are also at the root of nature.

“The Similipal National Park located in this region holds a place of global importance in terms of biodiversity. The students and faculty of the university will find a way to protect biodiversity through their research and innovation. The President on Friday inaugurated the Similipal National Park. visited the park.

He also met people especially those belonging to vulnerable tribal groups and encouraged them to fulfill their aspirations.

Ms. Murmu’s home district Mayurbhanj is a tribal dominated district. Tribes like Santhal, Bhumji, Bathundi, Munda, Gond, Kol, Mankirdia, Baiga, Lodha and Hill Kharia live in the district.
