Presidential election: Yashwant Sinha got a setback from 8 opposition parties. India News – Times of India

New Delhi: United Opposition candidates presidential election, Yashwant SinhaIn a setback to those who filed their nominations on Monday, at least eight non-National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parties did not send their representatives on the occasion.
The eight major political parties that did not file Sinha’s nomination include Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (BSP).JMM), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led BJD has already promised support to the NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu Because it belongs to the state.
BSP supremo Mayawati has also supported Murmu’s candidature, saying that the opposition did not consult her party.
Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM, SAD, YSRCP and PDP may have their reasons for not supporting the joint opposition candidate. However, 84-year-old Sinha faced the biggest setback from the JMM and the AAP, with both parties not filing his nominations.
JMM and Congress are alliance partners in Jharkhand. Sinha, a former Union minister, hails from the state and represented Hazaribagh in the Lok Sabha till 2014. This seat is now represented by his son Jayant Sinha as a BJP MP.
Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren The JMM had initially decided to support Sinha. However, in a bitter face, he has sought time to decide whether to support Sinha’s candidature.
Soren was in New Delhi on Monday. Instead of accompanying Sinha to file his nomination, he met Home Minister Amit Shah. He is under pressure to support Murmu, who served a full term as Jharkhand’s governor.
Second, Murmu belongs to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category and Soren too. Apart from this, Jharkhand is a tribal dominated state. Hence, it will come as no surprise if JMM finally decides to vote in favor of Murmu. This will be a big setback for Sinha.
As far as AAP is concerned, Arvind Kejriwal’s party ignoring Sinha’s candidature is also exceptional. Firstly, after leaving the BJP, Sinha served the AAP for a long time. Second, AAP is unlikely to be seen with the BJP supporting Murmu.
In the presidential election to be held on July 18, the final stand of parties like AAP, JMM, AIMIM and PDP will be closely monitored.
Meanwhile, the 16 parties that supported Sinha include Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Samajwadi Party (SP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Telangana Rashtra Samithi (NCP). Though Shiv Sena has promised support to Sinha, no one represented it on Monday as the party is busy countering Maharashtra minister Eknath Shinde’s rebellion.
In another related development, a campaign committee has been formed to carry out Sinha’s nationwide campaign.
The 11 members of the committee include Jairam Ramesh of Congress, Tiruchi Siva of DMK, Sukhendu Shekhar Roy of TMC, Sitaram Yechury of CPM, Ram Gopal Yadav of SP, Praful Patel of NCP, Ranjeet Reddy of TRS, Manoj Jha of RJD, D Raja of RJD.
