Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday met the three army chiefs amid growing protests against the ‘Agneepath’ army recruitment scheme in many parts of the country.

This was Mr Singh’s second meeting with the Chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force on the issue for the second consecutive day.

It is learned that the focus of the deliberations was on pacifying the protesters.

“We are bringing this reform to reduce the age profile of the armed forces,” a Defense Ministry official told a press conference after meeting with Mr. Singh.

Air Marshal SK Jha said, “The notification and registration process for enrollment of the first batch will be live online from June 24 through the well-established online system of the Indian Air Force.

“The online examination will start from July 24 and by the end of December we will enroll the first batch and training will start on December 30,” the Air Marshal said.

Additional Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Lt Gen Anil Puri said, “There is no place for indiscipline in the armed forces. There is no place for arson. Everyone who wishes to join Agneepath will give a certificate that They have not participated in any arson. After that there will be police verification.”

Vice Admiral Dinesh K. “The Indian Navy has already started working on the process. The advertisement will reach the ministry by June 25. The process will start within a month,” Tripathi said.

The Vice Admiral further said, “By November 21, the first batch of Agniveers will report at our training center INS Chilka. Agniveers will be gender neutral. Women will also be inducted.”

Vice Admiral Dinesh Tripathi said, “This year some of the 3000 Agniveers will be women. We are working out the numbers based on the number of ships and facilities in the training establishments.”

The terms and conditions and eligibility criteria have been put on the Army website. We will have notification from all recruitment offices on 1st July. The first rallies will begin in the first week of August to November. Induction will be done at the training centers in two batches.

“Around 25,000 in the first batch by the first half of December. The second batch by the first half of February 2023. 83 rallies are planned across the country covering all the states,” Army Adjutant General Lt Gen CB Ponnappa said.
