India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi wraps up his time after meeting with British Prime Minister Rushi Sunak and Brazilian President Lula Inacio da Silva at the G7 summit in Hiroshima.

“The two leaders reviewed their comprehensive strategic partnership, including taking stock of progress in India-UK FTA negotiations. The leaders agreed to deepen cooperation in a wide range of areas such as trade and investment, science and technology, higher education, and people-to-people ties,” the foreign ministry said in a press release detailing the prime minister’s meeting with Sunak. said in the release.

Modi and Sunak met for the first time on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali last year and also held bilateral talks in November 2022.

The Prime Minister of India also met the President of Brazil, Lula Inacio da Silva, who took office for a third term earlier this year.

“The leaders noted that this year marked the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. They reviewed their strategic partnership, and discussed ways to deepen it further, especially in the areas of defense production, trade, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, dairy and animal husbandry, and bio-fuels and clean energy. The two leaders stressed the need to hold a high-level meeting of business leaders of the two countries,” a MEA press release said about the Modi-Lula meeting.

“The leaders exchanged views on regional developments. They stressed the importance of continued cooperation in multilateral platforms and the long-standing need to reform multilateral institutions.”

Mint had earlier reported that Brazil would push for closer ties with India through the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) forum and the G-4, a grouping of countries aimed at multilateral reform.

The conclusion of the summit marks the end of an intense period of diplomatic activity for Prime Minister Modi. On Saturday, he met Korean President Yoon Seok Yeol, Macron of France and Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. He also met President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The Prime Minister also met with the leaders of the United States, Japan and Australia for the 3rd Quad Leaders’ Level Summit.

Apart from meeting his counterparts, PM Modi also addressed working sessions aimed at expanding the agenda of the G7. His remarks in three different sessions touched on the challenges of food security, climate change and environmental affairs, and sustainable development among other topics.

He will now travel to Papua New Guinea, where he will participate in the third edition of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC). This will be his first visit to Papua New Guinea.
