Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday met the family of a man killed in the custody of Uttar Pradesh Police in Agra and promised all possible help in their fight for justice.

She said that the relatives of Arun Valmiki told her that the entire family was harassed. He said that they told him that Valmiki was given electric shocks and his hands were crushed under the chair by the police. In addition, around 40 members of the Valmiki community were also arrested and tortured.

Ms Gandhi Vadra was earlier allowed to proceed with four others after being detained by the police – the second time in less than a month.

His car had earlier stopped at the toll plaza on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway.

Earlier today, UP Police said that Arun Valmiki died after his health deteriorated during interrogation.

Agra Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muniraj Ji said that he fell ill on Tuesday night while his house was being raided. He was then taken to the hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead.

Arun was accused of stealing money from a building which served as the police station’s evidence warehouse, and where he worked as a cleaner.
