Pro League Hockey | India beat France 5-0 in their first match

Playing in their first match of the year, World No 3 India took some time to settle down in the first quarter.

Olympic bronze medalist India started their FIH Pro League hockey campaign with a 5-0 win over France on Tuesday.

After a barren first quarter, India scored three goals in the second before finding the target twice in the third.

India got four penalty corners in the match, out of which they scored two runs. France got three PCs but all were ruined.

Harmanpreet Singh and Varun Kumar scored from penalty corners in the 21st and 24th minutes, while Shamsher Singh scored a field goal in the 28th minute to make it 3-0.

Mandeep Singh (32nd) and Akashdeep Singh (41st) completed the match for India.

But once it found a measure of its rival, the Manpreet Singh-led side went ahead and dominated the remaining three quarters.

India will take on hosts South Africa in their second match on Wednesday.
