Proposals invited for Green Champion Award

Proposals have been invited from eligible applicants in Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam districts for the Green Champion Award instituted by the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Forests, Government of Tamil Nadu.

The Collectors of Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam, in separate communications, have invited proposals for award money of Rs 1 lakh each from organisations, educational institutions, schools, colleges, residents’ associations, individuals, local bodies and industries in their respective districts .

This award is given for exemplary contribution in environmental protection. A press release states that one hundred individuals or organizations will be selected each year for the award.

For environmental education and training, environmental awareness, environmental protection, a new innovative green product or green technology, sustainable development, solid waste management, water conservation and protection of water bodies, climate change adaptation and mitigation, emission reduction, control and recycling Research and scientific studies on plastic waste, eco-restoration, conservation measures in coastal zone protection, and other environment-related projects are factors in selecting the awardees.

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board selects 100 individuals or organizations every year through a District Level Award Committee (DLAC) headed by the respective Collectors. The format to be filled for the award is available on TNPCB website (www.tnpcb.gov.in).
