PSI scam: MB Patil of Karnataka Congress meets boss DK Shivakumar’s BJP leader

The Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) exam scam in Karnataka is getting deeper day by day.

Now, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar has raised doubts over the meeting between KPCC campaign committee chief MB Patil and Higher Education Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dr Aswanth Narayan.

The Congress is mounting pressure on the BJP government by accusing Narayan and his relatives of being involved in the PSI scam. Congress leaders and workers are protesting at many places demanding his sacking.

Shivakumar said Narayan feared that the Congress would land him in trouble in the PSI scam and he met MB Patil to save himself.

“He is afraid of Congress putting him in trouble. He did not want Congress to raise issues with him, so he planned a meeting. When you ask them, they will tell you that it was a private meeting. The education minister will also say that when I run the education centre, I met him for advice,” said Shivakumar.

Meanwhile, Patil contradicts his own boss. He clarified that he has not met the senior minister for a long time and that politics is separate from personal relations. The MLA further said that they have a special relationship as their son and Narayan’s daughter are friends.

“For the last six months, I have not met Narayan, but there is nothing wrong in meeting him. Meeting for politics is different from casual. His daughter and my son are also good friends. I have also gone to meet CM Basavaraj Bommai. What’s wrong with that,” he asked.

Karnataka Home Minister Araga Gyanendra on Friday said the state has decided to cancel the alleged scam examination conducted to recruit 545 police sub-inspectors and conduct re-examination.

“The main accused in the police recruitment exam scam is Divya Hagaragi, along with others including Saddam (driver), Suresh and Kalidas (assistant) and Sunanda (activist) have been taken into custody,” Gyanendra said.

“Barring the accused, the remaining 54,289 applicants will be given a chance to re-appear,” he said.

Hagaragi was allegedly involved in rigging the recruitment and written examination held in October last year. The alleged irregularities were said to have taken place at the Gyan Jyoti English Medium School in Kalaburgi run by Hagaragi. “… Bluetooth was also used (for malpractices),” he said.
