Tamil Nadu’s Leader of Opposition told reporters in New Delhi that since the matter pertains to the state’s Finance Minister Palanivel Thiyaga Rajan (PTR), the issue cannot be ignored.

Stepping up pressure on the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu over the PTR audio clip issue, opposition AIADMK has demanded a central probe into the matter, with party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) taking up the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. ,

Tamil Nadu’s Leader of the Opposition told reporters in New Delhi that since the matter concerned the state’s Finance Minister Palanivel Thiyaga Rajan (PTR), “the issue cannot be ignored,” and should be probed as the PTR insists that they are fabricated audio tapes.

The EPS met Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda in the national capital late on Wednesday night.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Palaniswami replied in the affirmative when asked by a reporter whether the issue figured in his meeting with Shah on Wednesday night.

“We informed (Shah) about this. This is not a simple matter, it is a big issue. Shocking information has come out from this audio. Palaniswami said, there are reports that the Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu has made some comments in the audio.

PTR has debunked two audio clips released so far by state BJP chief K Annamalai, alleging that advanced technology has been used to create such content. In both the clips, he allegedly made some comments about the assets of Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi and son-in-law V Sabarisan, which Rajan categorically denied.

Palaniswami further said that while the PTR has allegedly named two persons, “the matter should be thoroughly investigated.” Palaniswami said, “Earlier also in this matter. But now they (PTR) are issuing media statement and now some problem is visible in it. It is dangerous.”

He said whether there is truth about the assets of the DMK leaders concerned or PTR’s insistence that “he doesn’t speak” in the audio should be probed and the Center should take action.

The EPS said “the matter should not be ignored” as the TN finance minister is involved, adding that the matter was brought to Shah’s notice during their meeting last night.

Palaniswami said Shah told him that he was also aware of the issue. The AIADMK chief said, “We have told him that this (issue) should be probed and the truth should be told to the people.”

Palaniswami also sought to know why Chief Minister MK Stalin has not yet reacted to the matter.
