A six member delegation led by Selvaperunthagai assessed various departmental works in the district

The Public Accounts Committee of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Wednesday inspected various development works in Villupuram district and held a meeting with the officials.

A six-member delegation of the committee headed by Congress MLA K Selvaperunthagai inspected the construction of the library at Kalperumbakkam at a cost of Rs 2.50 crore under the Kalainar Urban Development Scheme, a press release said.

The committee also inspected the Adi-Dravid boys’ hostel in Kapur Panchayat to verify the living conditions, food quality, cleanliness and environment of the students. The members also inspected the office of Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers Association (Aavin) at Villupuram.

He inspected the cold storage facility and production of by-products like ghee, milk powder and various other products. The members also interacted with the officials and inquired about the quantity of milk procured from the cooperatives, hygienic production practices and sale of products.

The committee held a review meeting with the officials at Villupuram Collectorate. On this occasion, Collector D. Mohan, Superintendent of Police N. Srinath and other officials were present.

Speaking to reporters, Mr Selvaperunthagai said that Aavin suffered a loss of ₹26.88 crore as it failed to ensure proper utilization of the machinery purchased during 2018-19. He said that a new check dam would be built at Thalavanoor at a cost of Rs 40 crore.
