Puducherry reports 29 new COVID-19 cases

The Union Territory reported 29 new cases of COVID-19 and no death on Sunday.

Puducherry reported 15 new cases, which were detected in 1,464 tests, followed by Karaikal with three and Mahe with 11. No new case was reported from Yanam.

With 43 COVID-19 patients getting cured in 24 hours, the active cases rose to 280. Of them, 52 patients were in hospital and 228 were in home isolation.

The test positivity rate was 1.52%, the case fatality rate was 1.45% and the recovery rate was 98.33%. The cumulative toll stood at 1,875 in Puducherry with 1,464 deaths, Karaikal 251, Yanam 108 and Mahe 52. A total of 1,29,085 cases and 1,26,930 recoveries have been registered in the Union Territory so far.

Puducherry government has announced that COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory in the union territory.

Director of Health and Family Welfare Services G. A press release by Sriramulu said the order would come into force with immediate effect. The government has invoked the provisions of the Puducherry Public Health Act, 1973 to implement compulsory vaccination. He said that those violating the order would be punished as per the provisions of the Act.
