A video has surfaced on social media in which Punjab Congress MLA Joginder Pal and his security personnel are thrashing a youth, when asked what the MLA has done for his village.

As the incident left the party embarrassed, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Wednesday said that an MLA has to serve the people and the MLA should not have behaved like this.

In the video, Pal, MLA from Bhoa assembly seat in Pathankot district of Punjab, is addressing a group of people on Tuesday.

Just then a youth named Harsh Kumar can be heard questioning the MLA about the work he did during his tenure.

When one of the MLA’s security personnel held hands to take him away from the event, Joginder Pal can be heard asking the youth to come and talk to him.

As the MLA gave him the microphone to speak, the young man asked, “Tu ki kita (What have you done?)”

Joginder Pal was enraged by this question of the young man and in the video he can be seen slapping him. The MLA, his two security personnel and another person then thrashed the youth and he was taken out of the venue.

Harsh Kumar said on Wednesday that he had asked the MLA only one question, but Pal and some others thrashed him badly.

His mother said that her son had only asked the MLA what he had done for the village and demanded justice for him.

There was no response from the MLA.

The BJP hit out at the ruling Congress in Punjab, saying it shows the intolerant face of the party.

“After Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra ejected journalists from their PCs for asking factual questions, it is the Congress MLA from Boha in Pathankot, Joginder Singh, to beat up a youth in black and blue just for questioning. There is an intolerant face of the Congress,” said Amit Malviya, BJP’s national executive member and in-charge of its information and technology department.
